Heating Your Greenhouse

Greenhouses are mostly about heat – keeping the right temperature for the plants. The kind of plants you grow and how much monitoring they require are significant considerations you should take when you pick your type of heater. The trick comes in winter when the greenhouse can’t get warmth from the sun. You have to use artificial means to maintain the ideal temperature inside. Large greenhouses require more heating. You can choose from a range of heating systems: Small central heating using heated water – This is ideal for large greenhouses. Water is heated by gas, oil, wood or coal and is circulated in pipes. However, you should take into account that fuel can be expensive. Electric heaters – These types of heaters are commonly used in greenhouses with a typical garden setting (i.e. plants like tomatoes are grown in beds). Electricity-powered heaters make the job easier. Most have thermostats which come in handy during sudden drops in temperature. Paraffin heaters – These are portable heaters which are easy to use and simple to install. But with the coming of more affordable electric units, they have somehow lost their popularity.
