Hydroponics gardening involves growing your plants without the use of soil. This type of gardening was first used in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and The Floating Gardens of China. In modern times, the practice of hydroponics gardening was started in 1950 in The Netherlands, Australia and Germany.

Greenhouses are the best place to grow hydroponic plants due to several reasons, which include the following:

  1. The controlled environment of greenhouses is exactlywhat hydroponic plants require.
  2. Vegetables grown hydroponically in greenhouses are proven to contain more vitamins, compared to their counterparts that were grown with soil.
  3. It can provide the gardener/farmer more spare time, as the controlled environment in greenhouses lighten the worries of the gardener/farmer of extreme weather conditions, bugs and other external factors that might affect the growth of the plant.

Aside from the aforementioned benefits of hydroponics gardening, the use of water is more utilised in this type of plant cultivation. The reason for it is that the roots of the plant can easily take in the water, as there is no soil that it competes with.

In choosing plants to cultivate for your hydroponics greenhouse garden, starters are advised to start to with simple plants that require low and easy maintenance like lettuce and spinach. This stage of hydroponic gardening will be the experimental stage for the gardener/farmer as he tests the right combination of water and liquid fertiliser. After the initial phase of hydroponics gardening, one may try out tall-growing plants like tomatoes and peppers, but the gardener must make sure that his greenhouse has the needed structures to support the growth of these plants.

Greenhouse construction is also essential in hydroponics greenhouse gardening, as this type of gardening requires a great amount of sunlight. The design of the greenhouse must be suitable enough to let sunrays pass through the glass or plastic cover of the facility. The build of the facility is more even important during winter months, when the sun and heat is less. This, however, can be remedied by installing electric heating systems inside the greenhouse to ensure that it maintains the required temperature of the plants you are cultivating.

While hydroponics greenhouse gardening seems to be too complicated at first, gathering enough information about it can help you significantly in terms of how you grow your plants and the costs you spend in growing them.
